Activities & Free Time
The Advanced Studies Program is not just about academics. Students will also enjoy a full social program including cultural excursions, local visits and sports. The activities program provides a great opportunity to get to know other students from all over the world. The program has been designed so that every student gets the most out of their stay with us.
Around Oxford, Cambridge and London
The cities are three of the most popular sight-seeing destinations in the UK. Students are taken on orientation tours around the cities and colleges at the beginning of the course and can explore these world-famous locations in depth during their stay.
OASP students can explore the Bodleian Libray, Ashmolean Museum and Christ Church College where the Harry Potter movies were filmed. CASP students will enjoy the Fitzwilliam Museum, King’s College Chapel or a quiet walk through Grantchester Meadows along the River Cam. Both Oxford and Cambridge are synonymous with punting which is a fantastic way to spend a sunny summer’s day. Local Shakespeare productions are often performed in beautiful college gardens, offering a delightful experience for any student.
LASP students will be living in the centre of London and the social programme will make the most of this. Students will have at least 7 visits to London attractions over a two-week stay. These will be to top attractions such as to the British Museum, National Gallery, London Eye and Shakespeare’s Globe allowing students to live like a true Londoner. Activities organised during the evenings such as casino nights, capture the flag and evenings on the Southbank give students the possibility to explore more of London.
However, students must always be with at least one other student and must adhere to curfews and other important rules.
Sport
Sporting activities are optional, but OASP and CASP students are given plenty of opportunities to refine their skills in the traditional British games of croquet and cricket. Other opportunities include soccer, basketball, tennis, squash, swimming and even ice-skating. Sports sessions are held during the afternoons and evenings and can also be arranged according to demand.
Free Time & Evenings
Central locations on OASP and CASP allow students to sign out of college during any free periods they might have. OASP and CASP students are older teenagers so they are trusted to explore the cities with their new friends. However, students must always be with at least one other student and adhere to strict curfews. If students break free-time rules like returning after the curfew, they will not be allowed to leave the college without being accompanied by a member of Bucksmore staff.
After dinner, students can relax after a busy day. We offer a range of activities from bowling to the cinema and restaurant visits. Some students choose to spend their evenings preparing for seminars.
Whatever their preference, OASP, CASP and LASP provide full social programs that cater to all student needs and expectations. The programs immerse students in UK culture and help them to have as much fun as possible during the summer.
