Elections to select the next Mayor of London was held on May 5th 2016. Citizens all over the UK placed their vote to choose who should be following in the footsteps of ex-mayor Boris Johnson who has decided not to stand for re-election. Having been elected as a Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party for Uxbridge and South Ruislip in 2015, the main contenders to follow in Mr.Johnson’s footsteps are main contenders Sadiq Khan, the Labour party MP for Tooting and Zac Goldsmith, the Conservative MP for Richmond Park. Both were selected for their parties in 2015 with a total of 12 candidates standing.
Citizens registered to vote have 3 ways in which they can cast their vote. This can be done through either voting in person by attending a polling station, voting by post or voting by proxy through someone the citizen trusts.
